Native to eastern Europe and western Asia, shepherd’s purse (also known as capsella bursa-pastoris; named so from its resemblance to a shepherd's pouch in the Middle Ages) is often considered a common weed in the mustard family, as well as cabbage, broccoli, and watercress. It bears four-petalled white flowers that produce heart or purse shaped seedpods. It may work to promote general health in several ways. Shepherd’s Purse contains fumaric acid‚ which is a substance that might have antioxidant properties to help support cells from free radical damage. Also, shepherd’s purse contains amines that may act to *discourage excessive bleeding by managing blood clotting. Women might find Shepherd’s Purse helpful since it may help address certain symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle; this herb might work to lighten heavy periods by constricting the smooth muscles in the womb. Naturally Caffeine Free.
