Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts from aromatic plants to capture that plant’s aroma, flavor and natural benefits by steam distillation or pressing. These oils have been used for centuries for both their healing and aromatic benefits. The highly potent compounds are found in a plant’s flowers, seeds, leaves, stems, bark, roots, rinds, fruit and resin. Once extracted, essential oils will often have a stronger scent than the plants they come from and the effects are more concentrated. It can take several pounds of a plant to produce a single bottle of essential oil making them very concentrated. Because of this, they should be handled with care and never to be applied directly on skin.
