Butters are the essential fats and minerals that are
extracted from natural ingredients (palm, shea, cocoa, mango etc.) Each butter
will vary in its unique texture, rigidity, and absorbency. Body butters are
applied to retain moisture, lubricate and nourish the skin. People can use body
butter on their lips, hands, elbows, legs and feet. Some absorb into the skin
quickly while others may leave a slight oily barrier depending on skin type and
butter type. Their smooth and velvety texture is ideal for nourishing skin
during the winter months, when cold, dry air can cause excess flakiness and
itchiness AND also in the mild and hot temperatures to nourish skin from sun
burns.
Carrier oils are usually vegetable/fruit/nut/seed oils, such
as coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, etc. These oils are obtained through
cold pressing. In this process, a person presses or crushes a plant without
subjecting it to heat. This minimal processing help preserve bioactive
substances in oils. Although some are odorless, most carrier oils have a faint
smell that is sweet and nutty. Most carrier oils are loaded with essential
fatty acids, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds and skin-healing
vitamins. Unlike essential oils, they do not evaporate, therefore using carrier
oils are used to dilute essential oils so you can use them safely or added to
butters to make it more pliable. They also moisturize your skin used alone or
added to skin preparations.
