Castor Oil has been used in many cultures around the world for over 3,000 years. In old
herbal texts, it is called the "Palma Christi', Latin for the palm of Christ and has many
healing properties.
Castor oil is extracted from the seed of the Castor bean plant also called Ricinus
Communis. The main active ingredient of this vegetable oil is ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid
that is known to possess amazing anti-inflammatory properties. It makes a great
carrying oil as it penetrates the skin quite well. Castor oil has been used for arthritis,
constipation, various painful ailments, hair and skin care; and to reduce, soften and
even eliminate masses.
Castor Oil has many uses, such as use in a nourishing body oil, scrub, shampoo, body
wash, and lotions. Its natural, odorless quality also makes it ideal for soaping as it does
not affect the overall scent.
Caution:
Clothes stained with this oil may be flammable and washing may not remove all residues. The CPSC recommends washing clothing, rags or other material saturated with this oil more than once and then hanging to dry to avoid spontaneous combustion in a dryer.
